La Lune Lait with Caitlin Dougherty
Hi, I’m Caitlin!
Thanks for being here--I'm Caitlin (she/they). I'm a birth and postpartum doula, lactation counselor, a registered nurse, and mom of one. For the past 11 years I've worked in the cardiac intensive care areas, but birthwork always called to me. It wasn't until 2016 that I took the first steps on my journey and attended the birth of my best friend's first child.
I've been hooked ever since, and after taking a detour into nurse leadership, finally decided to become a birth doula in 2022. I was lucky enough to give birth to my first child later that year. During my own postpartum experience I became fiercely passionate about lactation, and have decided to pursue the title of International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). I am based in Jackson Heights, but I serve clients in The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Nassau County.

My Specialities
-
Birth Support
As your birth doula, I provide support and education both prenatally, during your labor and birth, and in your early postpartum period. We will discuss what your ideal birth looks like and create a plan that feels best for you. I will help you find evidence-based resources so that you can be truly informed and prepared. I will stand by you and your choices, encourage and empower you to advocate for your wishes, and help you feel confident and respected every step of the way.

Birth Worker Education
I provide monthly education for birth workers about how to navigate the complex world of hospitals. I bring to you insider knowledge from my career as both a nurse, and someone who ran a staff of 80 nurses, care assistants, and administrative staff. My current offering is about communication with providers, including tips and phrases that will "stop the line," if need be so that your client isn't subjected to unnecessary and unwanted intervention.

Lactation Support
It is my firm belief that feeding a baby, no matter how you choose to do it, is hard work. Many of us are not exposed to breast/chest feeding as children or adults and so when it comes time to do it for our own child, it can be truly overwhelming. When you choose to work with me, I promise to help make it seem less intimidating. From navigating the first (and second, and third) latch, to maintaining supply as your child's needs change, I am available for any and all of your questions. I received my initial training with Manhattan Birth and am pursuing further training so that I may obtain my IBCLC.
